Watkins Motor Lines
Watkins Motor Lines Freight Services
Watkins Motor Lines was formed in 1932, to help customers who ship smaller loads than handled by full load carriers. Watkins Motor Lines combines shipments from several shippers into a single shipload. Their idea of less than truckload (LTL) shipping has now developed into a network in the US. The company also provides border connections for Canada, Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.
Current Standing and Associations
The company now has 2800 company and contractor-owned tractor and trailer rigs. The actual number of trailers exceeds 11000. These are used for transporting goods between various terminals of Watkins Motor Lines and other connecting lines. The company provides direct as well as indirect services. Watkins Motor Lines has formed numerous associations with cargo carriers. Some of these are:
- Watkins Canada Express Inc.
- Land Span
- Sunco Carriers Inc.
- Highway Transport Inc.
- Watkins Fleet Services
Watkins Motor Lines Joins FedEx
In September 2006 Watkins Motor Lines and certain affiliates joined FedEx. Their operations are now called FedEx National LTL and FedEx Freight. This, of course, means that the company’s capabilities are greatly expanded. In addition to Watkins’ own first-rate shipping service, customers can now draw on the resources of FedEx.
